    Description

La Porte, IN- La Porte and Plymouth Plank Road Company $2 June 3, 1857 Wolka 386-3
A lovely example of the $2 variety with the lace network and large white "TWO." A blue trustee's rubber stamped notation is noticed, however the text is not legible which is often the case. In the 1840s, plank road building spread throughout the United States. Plank roads allowed travel at 7 to 8 mph in summer. Lack of maintenance led to their downfall. PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
