Connersville, IN- Savings Bank of Indiana $1 Aug. 23, 1854
While the Connersville institution was a state-chartered Free Bank, this note does not quite fit with that distinction. If legitimate, the note design should have included the Auditor of State's die, and the note should have had provisions for endorsements of responsible state officials. These notes may have been printed by a third party so as to be confused with legitimate issues of the bank, or they may have been complete frauds put into circulation elsewhere. State records indicate that only $10s and $20s were issued by the bank. This example grades Fine-Very Fine with some minor ink burn and a couple of small internal splits.
