(Washington, IN)- California Exchange 5¢ May 1, 1862 Wolka UNL
This deceiving note is not listed in the Wolka reference, which does list a later issue from here dated January 1, 1863. This issue was printed by Robyn & Co. of Louisville, KY while the later notes were printed by W.T. Norman. These notes also lack the printed issuing location, which the 1863 emission contains. Two attractive Native American vignettes are seen on this 50¢ piece. Several modifications to the terms and date of this note were added in red ink. We sold the Newman piece for $235 and that graded VF 35 Apparent due to multiple problems. This fully margined and utterly problem free example should sell for much more. PCGS Very Fine 35.
