Description
Savannah, GA- Timber Cutter's Bank $20 Jan. ?, 1859 G10a PMG Very Fine 20.The Timber Cutter's Bank was organized around 1858 and apparently did not survive the end of the War by much at all, as evidenced by its notes being quoted at anywhere between 0¢ and 12¢ on the dollar in the first five years following the conflict's conclusion. It is quite likely that the bank never recovered after Savannah fell to Union forces on December 21, 1864. The $20 features farmers harvesting corn at center flanked by a portrait of a young woman holding a dove at lower left and another of a woman holding harvested grain on her shoulder. A dark green overall tint and green and white TWENTY protector complete the design.
