Savannah, GA- Marine Bank of Georgia $2 18__ as G4 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was organized in 1854 and was one of the rare institutions that survived the Civil War, finally surrendering its charter in 1877. This $2 features a vignette of two sailors on the shore looking out to sea and an oval portrait of George Whitfield, a popular preacher and one of the founders of the Methodist movement. It is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock which is, in turn, affixed to a Danforth Wright archive book card. The usual POCs appear in the signature lines. Two notes, part of an uncut sheet of $1-$1-$2-$2, appeared as part of Lot 317 in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. Decidedly rare and likely to stay that way.

    Estimate: $800 - $1,000.
