Savannah, GA- Bank of Commerce $20 18__ as G10b Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The Bank of Commerce was organized in 1856 and remained in business until it reportedly failed in November, 1860. The Bank's president was Gazaway Bugg Lamar, also president of the Bank of the Republic in New York and the Confederacy's agent for the Montgomery Treasury Note contract with ABNCo in 1861. The note design's focal point is a large river rafting scene flanked by smaller vignettes of cattle and a woodsman along with a large red TWENTY protector. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines and affixed to a Danforth Wright archive book card. There were two examples of this variety in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale (Lot 314) which have accounted for virtually all of the public auction appearances since. Surprisingly rare and attractive.

    Estimate: $500 - $750.
