    Description

Augusta, GA- Bank of Augusta $4 18__ G54 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The bank opened in 1810 and survived the Civil War by a year, closing in 1866. This design features Archimedes lifting the world with a lever at center. Portraits of Franklin and Washington anchor both ends of the note that is printed directly on card without any of the usual cancellations in the signature lines. While seldom seen, several sources point to a surviving proof note population perhaps around a half dozen examples.

    Estimate: $300 - $400.
