Impressive Miners Bank Multi-Tie $10 Note
Dubuque, Iowa Territory - Miners Bank of Dubuque-Iowa Lead Mines payable at the Mechanics & Traders Bank, Cincinnati $10 18_ IA-5 G6, Oakes 58-3. Remainder. PCGS About New 53 Apparent. The middle denomination from this rare series of Cincinnati payable title notes. This has an interesting layout by Western Bank Note & Co./Woodruff, Tucker & Co. Titles and obligations are in the center. At the far left is a trotting horse in an ornately framed oval. At the upper right a Native American hunter preparing to heave a tomahawk. The Flynn Collection example in our September 2008 Long Beach sale realized $2,530 as a raw note graded Very Fine. This example is broadly margined and bright with noted "Mounting Remnants on Back." The first example of this well styled rarity we have offered since the groundbreaking Flynn Collection auction. A great opportunity to obtain a fascinating Iowa rarity.

A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
