Very Rare 1847 Strafford Bank $20

    Dover, NH - Strafford Bank (2nd) $20 Jan. 4, 1847 NH-75 G68. PCGS Fine 12.
The $20 denomination from this issued and cancelled earlier series note, printed from the engraved New England Bank Note Co. plates. This is a rare type with the Whitman Encyclopedia plated example credited to the "Swasey Collection." A majestic eagle in an octagonal frame is at the top between "XX" counters. In the upper corners are "20" counters. At lower left, seated Moneta holds open a chest with one hand and keeps a group of papers in place on her knee with the other. Ships at sail are at lower right. A fully issued and dated note, neatly "Hole Punch Cancelled" on the signatures. This is a key denomination on this series and we found no sales records for the type.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
