    Description

Voluntown, CT- Granite Bank $5 18__ G8a Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The Granite Bank was a non existent bank designed to place large amounts of notes into circulation with no intent of ever redeeming them. It was in operation around 1857. This note depicts a large herd of cattle flanked by portraits of Webster and a young lady. There is a large red FIVE protector. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the the usual small POCs in the signature lines. This is, in turn, mounted on an original Danforth Wright archives book card. Two examples of this denomination were in Lot 128 of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. Very rare in proof form
