    Description

Norwich, CT- Uncas Bank $50 18__ as G26 Proof PMG Choice About Unc 58.
The Uncas Bank was organized in 1855 and remained in business until becoming the Uncas National Bank of Norwich in 1865. The note features twin vignettes of children with their pets flanking a large round vignette of a Native American pondering the advance of "Civilization" (this was a popular theme on antebellum bank notes). The note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. We are presently aware of two examples of this design and denomination.
