Norwich, CT- Thames Bank $10 July 1, 1862 G68a Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
The bank was organized in 1825 and remained in business until 1864 when it became the Thames National Bank of Norwich in 1864. This late note has a spectacular vignette of a life saving boat being launched to assist a vessel in distress during a storm. This vignette is only rarely encountered. It is accentuated by two green X protectors and a green protector panel. This is a modern proprietary proof, printed by ABNCo from the original plates during the 20th century for various purposes. On extremely rare designs like this, proprietary proofs may offer one of the only ways to acquire an example.
