New Haven, CT- Quinnipiack Bank $2 18__ G4a Proof PMG About Uncirculated 53.
The bank was organized in 1853 and remained in business until becoming the Yale National Bank of New Haven in 1865. The focal points of the design are an oval portrait of President Franklin Pierce and a large vignette of a Native American family in a canoe. A large red TWO protector and the State Treasurer's die also appear indicating this was intended for use when the bank was operating as a Free Bank. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. Neither this bank nor this denomination appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We are presently aware of three examples of this Proof design.
