Hartford, CT- Farmers and Mechanics Bank $100 18__ as G36 Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
This lovely well printed Proof features a custom vignette of the bank's headquarters in Hartford circa1845. A wonderful arm and hammer vignette at left speaks to the "Mechanics" portion of the bank's name and a very small horse vignette appears at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. Three examples, including this note, appeared in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale as part of Lots 61 and 62 and may well represent the total number of surviving Proofs. This marks only the second public auction appearance this note since it crossed the auction block in 2005 as part of the historic Schingoethe Collection.
