    Description

Clinton, CT- Clinton Bank $1 18__ G2a Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
The Clinton Bank was organized in 1856 and remained in business until 1865 when it became the Clinton National Bank. The $1 design features one of Danforth Wright's hallmark passenger train vignettes (Train of Cars engraved by Mosley I. Danforth) flanked by vignettes of a farm family at left and Justice standing with a huge sword at right. The design is completed by an overall light red-brown tint and a large red-brown ONE protector across the face. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines. With no public auction appearances of which we are aware in at least the last decade and only two examples appearing as part of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale (Lot 47), there is good reason to believe that this note is excessively rare.
