    Vibrant Monticello Bank $100 Note

    Charlottesville, VA - Monticello Bank $100 Sept. 6, 1860 VA-45 G30a Jones & Littlefield BC25-40. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent.
The lesser denominations from this American Bank Note Company engraved and printed series are encountered frequently. The $100 is the highest denomination from the issuer and is much rarer. This very dynamic note shows a detailed vignette of Monticello, engraved for the bank, at lower left. Two men in formal wear stand on the portico. An oval framed portrait of Jefferson is at lower right. The micro-lettered guilloche is across top center with bold 100, Lower right "C" and upper corner surrounds are in vermillion. There are some scattered specks noted as "Minor Rust Stains." We have handled a few examples including a PMG Very Fine 25 note at the 2013 CSNS Signature sale that realized $3,290. The color is especially vibrant on this very appealing note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
