    Payable in Gold Dust

St. Francisco, CA - Miners Bank of Savings of Alta-California 50¢ (in Gold Dust) 18__ Remainder PMG Choice Fine 15.
This series of notes is a mystery and is not to be confused with the Miners Bank that issued gold coins. An expensive, intaglio plate was engraved and notes printed by Gavit & Co., Albany. The plate was oddly configured with one $1 note, one 75 cents note, three 50 cents notes and four 25 cents notes, each in different sizes. This note, the second lowest denomination, shows seated Agriculture at the far left. The title is at the top with a central "50" counter, and "IN GOLD DUST" is prominent at bottom center. The textual denomination is on the right shaded end panel. This example is plate C of the three positions. This denomination is very scarce, encountered much less often than the 25 cents notes. This is only the second individual example of this denomination which we have offered in one of our auctions. PMG notes minor rust damage.
