Yellville, AR- A.W. Gray 50¢ Oct. 8, 1862 Rothert 714-1 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25.
Little has come to light on the background of A.W. Gray who may well have been a merchant in Yellville, located in Marion County on the border with Missouri. Locally sentiment was mixed between the Confederacy and the Union. Like most Arkansas scrip, this little note was simply printed on brown paper with minimal ornamentation. This note served as the plate note in Matt Rothert's 1985 state catalog. PCGS notes a small edge tear at right and very minor paper clip rust stains at upper left. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection.
