Superb 2nd Arkansas Infantry 50 Cents Sutler Note

Unknown Location, AR - Adams & Yager [Sutlers] Head Q'rs 2nd Ark. Inf. 50 Cents Aug. 1, 1862 Rothert 630-4 Keller AR-SC050 PCGS Very Fine 25.
A rare Confederate sutler note issue, from a regiment that operated mainly as part of the moving Western Confederate theater, printed on green rag paper in a simple typeset fashion. Full imprint at bottom left of Foster, Printer, Fort Smith. Black typeset with pattern borders. Bold FIFTY CENTS across, smaller IN CONFEDERATE NOTES below. Listed in the Keller sutler reference as Rarity-7, this very choice example is perhaps the finest from the issuer. Some notes from this series have a crossed-off infantry designation and were issued from Bentonville. Like most Confederate theater sutler notes, where exactly this note was issued cannot be precisely determined. However, this is a superb example and grand representative of the Confederate sutler genre. It is on a par with, or superior to, the recently sold, re-issued Bentonville 25 Cents note that realized $2,232.50 in February 2015.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
