    Description

Little Rock, AR - Little Rock Certificate of Indebtedness $1 Dec. 10, 1872
A very scarce post-war scrip note which was issued by the city of Little Rock as a "Certificate of Indebtedness." Primarily circulated locally but were discounted to some degree because of the issuer's precarious financial condition. Of the handful that we have sold over the years almost all are in wretched shape with a whole slew of condition problems. This note is an utterly problem-free PMG Choice Fine 15 and the nicest one we have seen. The last reasonably comparable notes that we sold were a couple of Very Good notes with a host of the usual problems and those realized an average of $200 or so in a far more suspect 2010 market. Today's collectors recognize rarity, whether condition-related or absolute, and are not afraid to step up to the plate to pay for it.
