Little Rock, AR- Haynes' Hotel 25¢ Mar. 13, 1863 Rothert 416-1 PMG Fine 12 Net.
A rare scrip note, formerly from the Glazer Collection of Civil War currency and documents. The only example from this private issuer we have handled has been this same note. This is the only denomination for this hotel listed in Rothert and is payable in Confederate notes. Union forces occupied Little Rock in September 1863 when Confederate General Sterling Price abandoned the city and Governor Harris Flanagin took the state archives first to Arkadelphia and then on to Washington in Hempstead County. The latter became the new state capitol. The denomination is incorrect on the third party label and this tissue thin paper note has been repaired. It faces up well and is historic and very rare.
