Excessively Rare "Payable in New Orleans" $100

Little Rock, AR- Cincinnati & Little Rock Slate Company $100 March 1, 1855 Rothert 409-16
The company was incorporated in 1852 and organized in 1854 to quarry slate along the Arkansas River. Though defined as a scrip note, the size and engraved designs of this intricate note seem to indicate it acted as a bank and notes were paid on demand including at the "Office in New Orleans." We have never had any example from this issuer payable in New Orleans save for a single $50 proprietary Proof which we sold five years ago. Unlike the Proof, this piece has a red protector overprint on the face and a printed green back. PMG Very Fine 30, with some trivial pinholes and tape residue on the reverse.
