Little Rock, AR- Bank of the State of Arkansas (Branch Issue) $100 18__ G50 Rothert 400-4 Proof PMG Uncirculated 61.
The $100 features an unusual vignette of a Native American child paddling in a canoe. The vignette had previously shown the canoe with a swan head on the bow, but this whimsical feature was removed for use on this note (although the swan head is still faintly visible). It appears that neither Rothert nor Haxby had physically ever seen this design based on their fragmentary descriptions. The note is printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines and has wrinkling and a moderately large area of paper thinning on the back in the upper right corner due to previous mounting. Two examples of this design appeared as part of Lot 26 in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and we are aware of perhaps two additional proof examples. Very rare and likely to stay that way.
