    The Mayers brothers ran an extensive mercantile and drug store business in Fort Smith. They were part of an alliance of several merchants in the region that stood prepared to redeem each other's scrip. This note for example was redeemable in Fort Gibson, Cherokee Nation/Indian Territory, Fayetteville and Van Buren, AR as well as in Denton and Sherman, TX, This note, which is in superior condition for issues from this firm, was redeemable in either merchandise or current bank notes when sums of $5 were presented. There is a red Mayers and Bro. stamp across the face of the note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection.
