    Description

Fort Smith City, AR - M. Mayers & Bro. - Payable in Multiple Locations 25 Cents Jan. 5, 186_ Rothert 234-5. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.
This series is different from the first two. Printed on brown paper, but without any vignette at top center. The plate letter "A" is at lower left. The date is partially written and the last digit is missing on this example. At the left end, Stirman & Dickson, Fayetteville, are enclosed in a fancy cartouche. The right end has an ornamental border. At the top border are the White & Hanley, Van Buren; F. H. Nash, Fort Gibson, Cherokee Nation (spelled out) payables. On the bottom border are Alexander & Allen, Sherman, Texas; J. M. Smoot, Denton, Texas payables. The red Mayers stamp across face has the word DRUGGISTS inverted. A significant series with the "Cherokee Nation" spelled out. Noted with "Small Edge Splits and Tears." A clean, well margined, and very attractive note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
