    Description

Fort Smith City, AR - M. Mayers & Bro. - Payable in Multiple Locations 25 Cents Dec. 18, 1861 Rothert 234-2. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent.
A slightly different Mayers type. It has a partially written date like the previous, and a ship vignette replacing the upper right "25." Plate letter A is at the lower left only. Payable in five locations, including Denton and Sherman, Texas and F. H. Nash, Cherokee Nation. The red Mayers stamping is on the back, with the word DRUGGISTS inverted as on the previous. There are some noted "Edge Splits" on this delicate rag paper. Sharply printed, with all the payable locations are very legible, particularly the Texas and Nash, C.N. locations. A very pleasing representative from this issue date.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
