    Fort Smith City, AR- M. Mayers & Bro. 50¢ Dec. 18, 1861 Rothert 234-11
This is a little scarcer and earlier design on this enterprising merchant. It is an interesting piece of multi-state store scrip issued by M. Mayers & Bro. in Fort Smith City. It is pen signed by the Mayers and is printed on brown paper. The notes were also redeemable at several other emporiums in Arkansas as well as by two stores in Texas, Alexander & Allen in Sherman and J.M. Smoot in Denton. Also, it is redeemable in Fort Gibson, Cherokee Nation. This scrip is also listed in the Medlar Texas reference and mentioned in the Burgett Indian Territory and Oklahoma reference on page 24. Very Good.
