    Description

    Fayetteville, AR - Holcomb & Barnard-Barnard's Drug Store $2.50 Jan. 17, 1862 Rothert 198-12 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20.
This is a great odd denomination scrip note with an apothecary title and vignette combination. Printed on very thin brown paper which is of excellent paper quality for this type of scrip note. An ornamental border is all around with a mortar and pestle vignette at the left. Payable in "Confederate Notes." Holcomb signing as "Cashier" is curious, and perhaps the pair acted as private bankers as well. Countersigned on the back by Barnard. PCGS notes small edge tears, primarily in the right margin. Ex: Eric P. Newman Collection.
