Fayetteville, AR- Bank of the State of Arkansas, Branch at Fayetteville $5 Post Note Aug. 8, 1838 G152 Rothert 186-6
The Cashier of this branch (who signed this note) was convicted of fraud after issuing unauthorized notes. This may explain why this note was turned into a twelve month post note that paid no interest. The note itself is well travelled, having served as the plate note in three different catalogs; Haxby, Rothert, and the Whitman obsolete paper money volume covering Arkansas, as well as being owned by Eric P. Newman. PCGS Very Fine 20. A pleasant appearing note with no meaningful issues or distractions.
