Fayetteville, AR - Bank of the State of Arkansas $10 Feb. 22, 1840 AR-10 G144, Rothert 186-2. PCGS Very Fine 30.
This is in top condition for the issuer and rare. An outstanding former Newman Collection note that is very vibrant. A stylish Rawdon, Wright & Hatch design. A hunter, holding his rifle, portrayed as a classical figure is at top center with his dog and ox. At top right, a contented looking young couple has been harvesting wheat; a train and large house are seen in the far distance. The base vignette shows a riverboat. We handled a lesser grade example January 2010 that realized $632.50. This was last sold in the Newman Part VII sale, October 2015, where it realized $705 and had been part of the Newman Collection for decades.
