Clinton, AR- Wm. Sherman 50 Cents 1862 Rothert 128-1
This Arkansas rarity, the Rothert book plate note, is very likely unique and boasts an illustrious Amon Carter pedigree. Amazingly, this collection has two denominations from this very rare series of notes with the "J. D. Butler, print." imprint. The Jefferson Davis medallion vignette at the left end is similar to that used by Hutton & Freligh, Memphis. The signature, vignette and serial number are all clear. Ex Smythe #274, Nov. 1, 2007, lot 5619. PMG graded Good 6 Net, with pieces added and tape repairs. Priceless to the specialist, regardless of condition.
