Champagnolle, AR- F.A. Peterson 25¢ April 21, 1862 Rothert UNL
A very scarce bi-state note with a totally different design than the examples from this issuer listed in the Rothert reference. This piece is issued from New Orleans, although payable at the Champagnolle location in Confederate currency or Arkansas War Bonds. Champagnolle was located on the Ouachita River and was once a prosperous port. When the river trade was interrupted by the Civil War, the town virtually ceased to exist, and today it is a ghost town. PMG Very Fine 20 Net, due to some stamp hinges remaining on the reverse.
