This $10 Batesville Post Note type is unlisted in Haxby, but is listed and plated in the Rothert reference. An exceedingly rare and possibly unique note. Engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright, & Hatch with a busy layout. At the upper right is a steamboat heading in the opposite direction from a wagon on shore loaded with bales. At the left end are several milkmaids enclosed in a circle. A classical male figure is seated at the right end with a dog. Fully signed and issued, payable "Twelve Months" after date. There is a period pen endorsement on the back. Noted by PCGS are "Minor Edge Damage; Small Edge Tears," but they are not severe. This not only boasts the Newman Collection pedigree, it is the Rothert plate note.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
