    Description

Discovery Note - New Merchant Issuer

    (Yellville), AR- J./G.(?) Weast 25¢ Oct. 8, 1862
Contrary to the attribution on the third party holder, the signature on this note appears to be "J. Weast." J.W. Weast is listed as a merchant in Yellville, Marion County, AR in the 1860 Federal Census. Depending on handwriting analysis there is, alternatively, a possibility that this could be "G. Weast" who is listed as a "Tinner" and literal next door neighbor to J.W. Weast. In either case this is a new issuer, unlisted in Rothert and never before offered. PMG grades the note Very Good 8 Net due to tears (the most noticeable one is from the top margin down to the "T" in "TWENTY"). Knowledgeable Arkansas collectors will not be deterred by these minor distractions.
