Americus, GA- City Council of Americus Georgia $1 ___1, 187_ Proof PCGS Choice About New 58.
A rare instance of a Continental Bank Note Company produced design, this municipal issue was authorized in the unsettled decade after the end of the Civil War. The issue was apparently released to circulation as issued notes are known. This green and black $1, which is mounted on cardstock, has portraits of a male (perhaps of the mayor) and of a young girl as well as a large pale green ONE protector and border. Once part of the landmark Alan Dorris collection. We suspect that this proof may be unique.
