Washington, DC- City Bank $2 June 10, 1852 as G4 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ.
The City Bank was a fraudulent institution in business between approximately 1852 and 1855. The layout of this note is straight forward with a vignette of Liberty, Justice, and an unidentified third maiden around a shield depicting a sunrise. An unidentified oval male portrait is at left and an oval vignette of Proserpine is on the right. This note is mounted on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines. Three examples of this design were part of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale. We know of no public auction appearances in the last decade.
From the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection
