    Steel Obsolete Plate

Titusville, PA - Petroleum Bank $1-$1-$1-$2 Plate
Unlike the majority of the obsolete plates we've seen, this one is uncancelled, unscratched, and ready to pull notes from. It's apparently stainless steel, produced by C. Yeager of Philadelphia for the American Bank Note Company's Philadelphia office. The surfaces of the sheet have been carefully preserved by having been coated with cosmolene or some such similar film, which is then covered by a sheet of wax paper. We can't recall seeing a single other perfect preserved obsolete era plate. It is on a scarce bank as well, making this plate an extraordinary item for the obsolete collector who must have everything.
