Springfield, MA- Chicopee Bank $100 18__ G100 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was incorporated in 1836 and remained in business until 1865, becoming the Chicopee National Bank of Springfield in 1865. This note has a simple yet elegant design, with medallic-like portraits of William Shakespeare and a classic Greek or Roman gazing at a reclining allegorical representation of Prosperity or Plenty. Printed on India paper with the usual POCs in the signature lines mounted on cardstock with a border added (that does not affect the note in any way.) We count two known surviving examples of this design.
