    Description

Selma, AL- The Real Estate Banking Company of South Alabama $2 July 12, 1861 G4 Rosene 300-2
The company was a fraudulent operation, speculating in cotton circa 1838-39. Rosene reports that it was reopened during the Civil War which may account for the 1862 date on this note (it is also possible that it was falsely filled in). The note grades Very Good-Fine with a faint damp stain that covers eighty percent of the note and a small area of purple staining along the bottom margin.
