    Rare Carroll County Bank Proof

Sandwich, NH- The Carroll County Bank $1 Jan. 1, 1855 Proof
W.L. Ormsby pointed to this design as the ultimate in counterfeit deterrence, with almost the entire note occupied by one massive engraved vignette. In practice, however, most of Ormsby's work was much closer to the conventional approach of having separate vignettes that appeared in the left, right, and central portions of a bank note. PCGS grades this stunning and extremely rare note Apparent New 62 due to two small missing corner chunks which do not touch the design.
