    Description

Russellville, KY- Southern Bank of Kentucky $10 18__ G340 as Hughes 747 Proof PMG Uncirculated 62.
The bank, which had six branches, was chartered in 1839 and operated in one form or another until 1865 when the bank was placed in liquidation. This $10 features a large oval female portrait and an even larger vignette of an allegorical maiden, perhaps representing Agriculture. The note is printed on India paper mounted on new light cardstock with the usual POCs in the signature lines. While there were lots of $10s from this bank in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale, this design was not represented. It appears that this is the Haxby plate note and is quite rare.
From the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection
