    Description

    Rare B. Rathbun Obsolete

Richfield, NY- B. Rathbun, payable at Manhattan Branch Bank Utica 75¢ July 15, 1815 Harris H12 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35.
An excessively rare War of 1812 issue denominated in shillings as well as cents. This is the sole denomination reported, with the illustration in Harris missing a large piece. This example is lovely save for a minor restoration and stains. It is certainly possible that the issuer of these notes is the individual of the same name who issued large quantities of scrip in Buffalo twenty years later and went to prison for fraud after failing to redeem his scrip. A fantastic Obsolete.
