Andersonville - Libby Prison Carried Note

Providence, RI- Mechanics Bank $1 June 19, 1863 as RI-340 G8a UNL as Durand 1552a UNL PMG Fine 12.
This former Len Glazer collection note was quite special to him being a rare Civil War dated note that apparently has a great history concealed in its background. A rare bank and an unlisted variant of SENC major type. Very low machine serial number 10. The design for this note approximates the Haxby G8 and Durand 1552 designs, but is a later variety with the ABNCo monogram and the addition of a green 1 - ONE - 1 protector. The note features Vulcan on the left, a patriotic eagle and shield vignette, and an oval male portrait. What makes this note really special, however, is the inscription on the back:
"This Bill was carried to Andersonville, GA on the 2nd August and retained in my pocket until the 13th & has also been to Libby Prison. James E. Wood , Seargt. Co.......Regt."
Of course, the note was folded right at the end of the inscription, making it illegible. With a black light and a lot of time exploring databases like the National Park Service or Fold3, there should be sufficient information here to eventually discover this man's complete identity. A very rare note and very seldom seen with a great story to be completed. This example was once in the Schingoethe sale, Part 17 in 2009 (Lot 948). PMG mentions a minor repair, although it is unclear what the nature or location of the repair is. The lower right corner is rounded. On a note of this stature, minor faults can be forgiven, and as a historical artifact, priceless perhaps. Estimated conservatively here.
