    Providence, RI- Bank of Commerce in Providence $5 18__ G8 Durand 1036 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 63, 5 POCs.
    The bank was incorporated in 1851 and was closely allied with Merchants Insurance Company. It remained in business until 1865 when it became the National Bank of Commerce of Providence in 1865. The design features a portrait of Clay flanked by vignettes of a large sidewheeler steamer and Prosperity seated. There is also a large gray FIVE protector. This note was not part of the ABNCo Archives holdings and may be the plate note in the Haxby catalog (page 2221). Excessively rare and possibly unique.
