Philadelphia, PA- Farmers & Mechanics Bank $100 18__ G72 Hoober 305-270 Proof PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The bank was organized in 1807 and remained in business until 1864 when it became the Farmers & Mechanics National Bank. Minerva holding a federal shield appears at left while an allegorical maiden, perhaps Commerce, appears at center. One of UBS&H's trademark medallion-like cameo heads appears at right. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with none of the usual POCs present. One uncut sheet of four examples of this design was in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and was subsequently cut, providing four examples to the marketplace.
