Newton, NJ- Sussex Bank $100 18_ G54 Wait 1781 Proof PMG Choice Uncirculated 64.
The Sussex Bank opened in 1818 and remained in business until 1865 when it became the Sussex National Bank of Newton. The $100 is scarcer with a scant seven examples of this design known to us at present. The design shows Ceres and Liberty flanking a shield with the state seal of Connecticut on it with portraits of a young boy (soon to appear on CSA T32 $5 Treasury Notes) and young woman appearing on the ends. The note is printed on India paper with the usual small POCs in the signature lines.
