    Description

Newburyport, MA- Ocean Bank $1 18__ G2a Printer's Specimen / Remainder PMG Choice Uncirculated 63.
The bank was chartered in 1833 and remained in business until becoming the Ocean National Bank of Newburyport in 1865. This is an early PSSP design favored by many New England banks that has been enhanced by the addition of a large red ONE protector. Printed on regular bank note paper with POCs in the signature lines (and with handwritten 1852 annotations by the paper maker, Wilcox, on the back), this note traces its provenance back to a New England Bank Note Co. archive book. We believe that the remainder note's purpose was to either serve as a Specimen or Archives piece. Most likely unique.
