    Newark, NY- Bank of Newark $1 Jan. 1, 18__ as G4 Proof PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ.
    The bank was in operation from 1854 until it became the First National Bank of Newark in 1864. An attractive ABNCo product with an interior view of a blacksmith shop (detailed down to flying sparks from an iron piece being hammered) taking center stage. The bank department die and an oval female portrait are in the lower corners. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual POCs on the signature lines. Two examples of this design appeared as part of Lot 1279 in the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and may represent the total surviving proof population of this note.
