    Description

    Nashville, TN- Union Bank of Tennessee $2 Aug. 1, 1862 G206a Garland 1026 S-C N-B.Uni-2-6 PMG Very Fine 25.
The Union Bank of Tennessee was chartered in 1832 and remained on a solid footing until the Civil War, when the bank was forced to exchange a large amount of assets for Tennessee war bonds. At war's end, these became worthless and drove the bank into failure in 1865. At the time this note was issued in August 1862, Nashville had been occupied by Union forces for about six months. The $2 design features portraits of two girls flanking a vignette of a dog lying on top of a safe or strong box representing Fidelity. Printed by ABNCo, the note also has brick red borders, bi-color denominational counters, and a striking 2 - TWO - 2 protector panel. This a clean example that is fully issued, printed on good paper with no repairs or meaningful impairments noted aside from a few minor stains that affect nothing.
