Nashville, TN- Bank of the State of Tennessee 12-1/2¢ June 20, 1824 as G10 as Garland 825 Proof PMG Extremely Fine 40.
The bank was established in 1820 and remained in business until 1830 (some sources say 1832) when it was shut down due to a major embezzlement by the Cashier. This design is similar to that listed for this denomination except that the dog is facing the opposite direction and there is an imprint (Torrey, Nashville) present. Printed on thick brown paper. This note's provenance goes back to the Schingoethe Collection. It later appeared in a 2010 public sale before ending up in the Pease collection.
